There are some who believe that they successfully spite the French by pouring out red wine and renaming Freedom Fries. And there are others who believe that a little smirk while enjoying an American version of coq au vin is just as effective. Salut Bar Americaine in Edina seems to celebrate and stick it to the French at the same time. Warm gruyere filled gougeres appear on the menu as Les Cheesy Puffs next to the more traditional and buttery escargot bourguignon. Choose a rich and hearty Duck a L'Orange or go for Le Cheeseburger Royale served beautifully on a ciabatta roll. Definitely do the classic steak frites or sidle up to the zinc oyster bar as you practice swearing in French (because it just sounds so much sweeter). No matter your national alignment, don't skip out on Sunday brunch and the creamy, custardy quiche Lorraine.

The place reeks of corporate management, there's way too many tables that overwhelm the staff & the food was overpriced. We arrived on time for our reservation but still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Then it took another 45 minutes for our waiter to bring out the wine we'd ordered and we'd been sitting there for over an hour before our dinner finally came out. And what a disappointment. My steak was mealy & gray and the seafood was overcooked. Not cool.
